Greetings and salutations. If you're following me over from
RFC, thanks for making the trip. But chances are you're just as unfamiliar with me as I am with you. So let me introduce myself. I'm Sean -- Boston area film fan, music buff and comic book enthusiast. I'm not a paid professional, I have a day job, I don't get sent screeners or pre-release CDs or books, so you're not going to see many (or any) scoops or previews happening here. There will be a lot of talk about movies and books that have been out for many years -- whatever it is it will always be something that's captured my attention, for better or worse, and has driven me to the computer to share some thoughts.
You may have recognized the name for this site from Pauline Kael's 1969 essay "Trash, Art and the Movies". More than anything else, Kael's words in that landmark work perfectly sum up what I think is the best point of view to have when coming at this sort of thing -- the best frame of mind to contextualize movies and anything else that might fall under the "arts & entertainment" umbrella. In that regard, please look at the liberties I've taken with the title as an homage and as a tip of the hat to some great writing that has inspired me to join the conversation.
[Please bear with me in the early going here as I try to figure out how to use Google sites. I can already tell it's far better than Blogger, but I'm not exactly finding it intuitive so there may be some hiccups as I get this site off the ground. Thanks in advance.]
One last hat tip goes to Jim Laskowski for the Circle Cinema photo I re-purposed for the banner here. Check out his work on Flickr for some time well spent.
